KROMFOHRLÄNDER, an interesting little dog.
It seems that many foreign people look at my site...and I would like to tell you about my kromfohrländers once in a while, therefor I have decided to make a page in English....My background is a life with dogs and many other animals - my parents started with a highpersonality  daxhound and had later on a kennel with Great Danes and it has influenced my life ever since.

The  kromfohrländer is a rather small breed, but has a very large personality. The kromi is a sensitive dog, that in my opnion is not a beginner´s dog.  But if you understand to read the signals and give the right signals - and if you have the time for this kind of dog, you will have a very nice, and true companion. Don´t expect Your kromi to be a dog left alone because you must work all day (he/she wants to go with you and is willing to assist you all day and take care of you). Your Kromi prefers to lie in your bed at night, and sit on the back of  your neck when you are in your armchair.
The kromi prefers you rather than other dogs - but if there are some true dogfriends the kromi will also be a funny playmate, if it likes the other dogs. Kromfohrländers choose which people and other dogs he/she likes. It is not a labrador, who often loves everybody.
The kromi is an athleth, it is born to jump and run fast, so don´t give it a life allways in a leach. You must have space to let it run free. And you must like to go for walks, and maybe it can be fun for you to train agility with this dog.

Kromis and Children.
Like everybody - take care and look at the signals. Some kids are goood with dogs - others are not. The kromi often acceps kids, but it needs to have room to go away, if it does not want to be whith the kid anymore. Never leave small kids alone with any dog -is my advise. For positive action there should allways be an adult around kids and dogs.

Feeding a kromi.
My experience tells me that no dog is designed to eat dry boring food all life, just look at the teeth and the digestive system - it is made for raw meat,  and the natural choice is raw meat (barf). Kromis often have a bad appetite - but if you give it "Real" food it eats like a wolf. My dogs become "rigtig hundemad" ("real dog food")  raw meat produced in germany look at the page www.rigtighundemad.dk ) combined with some dry food, vegetables, leftovers from the familytable and vitamins/minerals.
A few kromis are too fat - and I really think it must be because of lack of excersice, combined with bad food - maybe cookies.

Kromi deceases.
The kromi is very healthy build - no exstreemes - but there might occur inherited deseaces like epileptica, heart desceases, autoimmune defects, hyperkerathosis, etc.
In Germany especially the breeders really try to  do a lot to avoid this. But the breed is small geneticly as there are not many individuals in the world, and in the end they are all related.
Alle breeders need to tell about deceases, when they show up - so we try to avoid making puppies that are not healthy.
All breeds have deceases, so no matter what, there are no guaranties.

My dog Dixi is the male that has started the story about having more than one kromi. He is the father of Bessie and she is the mother of the Hoolahop´s kennels first puppies. Two of them stay in the kennel: Ballerina and Badut. We also have the Shetland sheepdog Cadeau.
